The ghost town of Oatman is a unique tourist destination, sure to be enjoyed by lovers of old West history and lore. If you find yourself in the vicinity of Kingman, Arizona, or Needles, California this Summer, you may just want to make plans to visit Oatman while you are in the area. Although not quite as "pretty" as some of the more commercialized ghost towns, Oatman offers exceptional opportunities to explore a real old west gold mining town. Although many of the original structures burned in a fire in 1921, most of the structures standing today are still quite old and built to the standards of the day. Oatman has a true feel of authenticity.GETTING THERE
Oatman can be accessed primarily by way of the Sitgreaves Pass, which is part of the last remaining stretches of Old Route 66. There are three ways to access the Sitgreaves Pass. The most simple, and easiest to find, is directly off of Interstate 40, approximately four miles slightly Southwest of Kingman, Arizona. All you need do is follow the signs posted along Interstate 40, the exit is not difficult to find.
Just inside the Arizona/California state line, on the Arizona side, is Topock, Arizona. In Topock, there is a road that connects to Sitgreaves Pass, after a very short distance, approximately one mile. Watch for signs to Oatman in order to find this access road.
On the California side of the Arizona/California border, in Needles, California, there is an access road leading to Arizona State Highway 95, which also offers a turnoff onto Sitgreaves Pass.
