Neon Genesis Evangelion 2.0 Out (Big) in Japan, Possibly Coming to U.S. Soon

Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance Gets Huge Japanese Box Office Numbers

The second of four remakes of Neon Genesis Evangelion into a movie series, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, ravaged Japan's theaters with an estimated opening of 550 million yen, which is roughly 5.72 million dollars.

That's not too shabby for a limited release in Japan. That's not even considering that the movie will make its way to the U.S. Now that the first movie had a showing at the U.S.'s largest anime convention, Anime Expo, 2.0 should come over quicker than the near two years it took 1.0, entitled Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, to come out here.

Granted that is speculation, but now that Funimation has a cast and crew for 1.0, doing all the tedious work of getting a crew together to make 2.0 will be a heck of a lot easier. It's only a matter of time. Maybe at Otakon, the second biggest anime convention behind Anime Expo, coming in little under two weeks, Funimation will spill the beans. It might be a pipe dream, but don't put anything against the biggest anime distributor in the U.S.

Otakon will be showing Evangelion: 1.0 two times making it the premier at an East Coast anime convention. Funimation always has big panels at Otakon and surely, it could make this big of an impact here. One time on July 17 and one showing on July 18 with Funimation's panel at 3pm, not long after Eva: 1.0's airing that day, it could be a big time to debut the license.

The only thing going against it though is Otakon is only a mere two weeks after Anime Expo. Otakon has roiughly 20 to 25 thousand convention goers and prides itself on being a convention for the otaku, or fan. Anime Expo though is becoming the San Diego Comic-Con of anime. Capcom and Atlus from the gaming world both had booths in the Dealer's Room at Anime Expo and the director of recently released 2d fighting game from Atlus, BlazBlue, was a guest at the convention.
