Resigning Alaskan Governor Targetted Unfairly
Leave Sarah Palin alone about why she resigned and wait until they are issued or not to talk about federal indictments.Okay, so let's get this out of the way first: I don't like Sarah Palin.
I think she used an unfortunate circumstance with her then 17-year-old daughter as political fodder and that was abundantly unfair to Bristol. I don't care if she agreed to do it, no 18-year-old new mom can appreciate being paraded around the country and used as a talking point for good girls who make mistakes. And at that age, we all do lots of things to please our parents.
Being a new mom is hard at any age. Being a new single mom at 18 and in the public spotlight has to be hellish. Sarah should have protected her child from the media not trotted her out like a show horse and used her as a political tool.
Second, I think she uses Trig in much the same way. He is a child, not a show dog, to be paraded out and photographed to show just how pro-life Sarah Palin is. Though I think recent speculation that she might have been suffering from post-partum depression seems to minimize the importance of that syndrome, the truth is any mother of a special needs child who is honest will talk about the guilt associated with the birth of that child.
The ones who I have observed, no matter how much they love their child, will ask God why he placed this burden upon them, not proclaim to the world that having a special needs child is right for everyone. It isn't. A lot of people do not have the temperament or financial ability to deal with a special needs child. It takes someone dedicated to being a parent.
Third, I detest the way Sarah Palin has let her handlers depict her as a woman more concerned about being pretty than being smart. I'm not saying the two are mutually exclusive, or even that Sarah Palin isn't smart. I suspect she is. But she allowed the McCain campaign and the media to cast her as country bumpkin, homecoming queen instead of a feisty, intelligent woman. Her own remarks seemed more directed at making people realize that she was still sexy than highlighting her intelligence. Maybe it's because I'm an intelligent woman, but I am offended for her.

A point of clarification is in order...Stevens was charged by a Bush appointed Republcan, so it could hardly have been called "politically motivated" The convicton was reversed and the charges dropped because the case was so badly handled, not because evidence demanded a reversal...

Has anyone researched how many times a sitting governor of any state has suddenly quit "for the good of the people" or for the good of his/her family? Not likely a common event. An elected official trying to hide/minimize/avoid a scandal? Seems pretty frequent. What do you think is more likely with Governor Palin? I guess we'll see soon enough.
Hey Gr8gunz, Thanks a bunch :) I was afraid no one would see tne liberal me. Oh wait, did you even look at the part that matters? I prefaced it with my personal opinions on Sarah Palin because I didn't want anyone to think I support her, but I think she is being mistreated and handled poorly. She's obviously a smart lady and with better management could be a serious threat to national politics instead of a pretty joke on the Republican Party.
Good to see somebody that does not like her defending our next President.
I share your feelings on a personal level of not liking her. The fact that she did interviews and proceeded to make herself look very unintelligent didn't help matters. Talking about foreign policy and she drivels about Alaska sharing a border with Russia and Canada. *snort* That still makes me giggle. Great article! :-)

Very good article. I have one comment on the indictment scenario. You cannot "avoid" a federal indictment. If you're indicted, you're indicted. She said she thought her resigning would be good for her state. If she knew that federal indictment was coming, maybe that's what she was talking about? She talked about doing things "outside of government". That either means that she has been offered a private sector job, or wants to seek one, or that she knows her political career is over. I don't think she's running for President, now or ever. I think if the indictment is real, it will seal her fate in politics. She's right, though, she can do a lot outside of government. Maybe she'll become a lobbyist. Doesn't seem to matter whether they have morals or not.
I did not know you were so politically savvy yourself. Well-written, thought-provoking and right-on-the-money piece.
