These Cactus inspired napkins are perfect for a Southwestern wedding reception or even Southwestern wedding favors. They are easy to make and simple to sew. Even if you don't have any sewing skills or experience you should be able to make this fabric napkin craft.

You can roll each napkin and tie them shut with a ribbon. Write a note on a small piece of card stick letting your wedding guest know they should take their napkins home as wedding favor. Punch a hole in the corner and slip the note card on the ribbon before you tie it.

These southwestern wedding favors are great because one size fits all!

Buy Green Rayon Velvet specifically to make these napkins. This material is washable and perfect for adding elegant embossing to. Rayon Velvet makes these napkins appear fancy but actually they can be used and washed as often as necessary.

To Make A Set of 6 Embossed Velvet Cactus Napkins as Southwestern Wedding favors You Will need:

2 Yards Rayon Velvet (cream, hunter green)

Water Spray Bottle

Rubber Cactus Stamp

Iron

Sewing Machine and Thread

Clean white dishtowel

Start by cutting out 12 1 foot by 1 foot pieces of velvet out. These 12 pieces will make 6 dinner napkins.

Preheat your iron to a medium setting. Next, Place rubber Cactus stamp face up on ironing board.

Place the velvet nap side down on stamp. Make sure the fabric is lying smoothly over the stamp. This will create the clearest image possible.

Cover the velvet fabric napkin with the clean white dishcloth. Now, mist the towel lightly with water form the spray bottle.

Using the iron, Press the velvet onto the Cactus stamp for 15 seconds. Do not move iron around on the stamp. It is important to hold the iron perfectly still.

Now, Lift iron off and peel the velvet fabric back to reveal stamped Cactus design.

Repeat this process moving your Southwestern Cactus stamps around the velvet. If you want to create a pattern you can mark it out ahead of time with small dots on the back of the material. You could also create a border with a smaller Cactus pattern around the napkin. Fill in the middle with one large Cactus themed stamp or a bunch of medium sized southwestern themed stamps.

Takeaways
  • Lay two pieces of fabric front sides together.
  • Use this opening to pull the inside of the fabric out.
  • Sew all four sides together leaving a three-inch opening at one corner.
Did You Know?
Flatten out the velvet Cactus napkin with your hands. Tuck the rough edges of fabric into the opening and sew it shut by hand. Do not use no sew to seal the opening or you will emboss a design on the napkin you do not want.
