This is a true story told to me by my mother. It happened to her when she was a young mother of two, before the other 6 of us were born. The first two children in my family were girls and they are close in age, just thirteen months apart. This is the part of the story that I will write for my mother. She tells this story when a new child is born into my family and complications arise in the child's physical health. This is her story:' When I was born I was told that I was a very healthy baby. Soon after learning how to walk it became apparent that something was wrong. I did not walk like the rest of my family or the kids at school. My legs were weak and my balance was very bad. They could not diagnose me because at that time in history medical knowledge was very minimal compared to today. They thought that i had polio for awhile so they, the doctors, forced me to drink cup after cup of tea. This was thought of as a cure but it did not work. Still no diagnosis by the time i was a teenager, then I was brought to a faith healer. The healer could not tell my parents what was wrong with me but he did reset my hip bone. As I grew up i was able to work around my physical problem. I graduated from high school and them got married. With in a year I was a mother of a wonderful little girl. This is where my story begins.
