Many are unaware that taking care of a puppy is a huge responsibility. A pooch that is about eight weeks old needs as much attention, love, and caring as an infant child. Before you even considering buying a pup, you need to ask yourself if you can be committed to nurturing, training, feeding, caring and teaching the mutt for a couple of months or when it turns six months old.

If you haven't experienced rearing and raising a pup previously, it will be best that you read the tips below before you even bring your precious little canine to your home:

Prepare the things that your pup will need

If you are expecting a baby, you will not buy the crib, infant clothes, feeding bottles and other baby paraphernalia on the day that the infant is brought to your home, right? The same is true when you are bringing home a pup. It is best to buy the things you need ahead of time, before you bring home your beloved pet. You will need water and food bowls, chewing toys, crate and beddings.

Ensure to pup-proof your home

Since puppies are inquisitive, energetic and curious, you need to make sure that the room or rooms where your pup will be left unattended are properly cleaned and pup-proofed. Since puppies will chew on almost anything and everything, make sure that all important papers, furniture, shoes, clothing, etc are properly stored or are not located in the room where your puppy will be staying. Furthermore, make sure that the room or area where your pup will stay is free of electrical cords, hanging objects, or even plants.

Be consistent in feeding your puppy

During the first few months, your pup will need to be feed three times a day because it needs ample nutrients to sustain its fast growth. When the pup reaches its adolescence, however, you can now limit its mealtime to twice a day.
