Of the 2,400 or so known species of snakes, several make good pets and are quite popular as such! Though there are several things to consider when deciding to keep a snake as a pet, they are fascinating, beautiful creatures, and interacting with them can be a rewarding and quite educational experience! There are many species which are kept as pets, ranging from small Garter, Grass and Corn snakes to giants such as Burmese Pythons, which are upwards of 20 feet long when full grown! I'll be focusing on Ball Pythons for now, as they are more exotic than common Garter snakes, but are reasonably affordable, quite docile (when a few common sense rules of thumb are followed) and are of a managable length when full grown- between 5 and 6 feet.

First, make sure you'll have a good home for your pet when you bring it home! A baby Ball Python will be comfy in a 10-20 gallon aquarium, but they grow quite fast (about a foot per year) until they're full grown, and will eventually need a much larger tank! For a full-grown adult, a 40 gallon breeder tank is great, because it will be wider than a regular 55 gallon tank, though either one will be fine. You'll also need to set it up for the new baby with a cool and a warm spot with a nice hiding place in the cool spot.

Takeaways
  • There are 2400 or so species of snakes in the world.
  • Ball Pythons are 5 to 6 feet long when full grown.
  • Ball Pythons are also called Royal Pythons!
Did You Know?
Ball Pythons are native to Western Africa.

i just got 2 ball pythons one ive had for almost a month and the other for a few weeks and those of you who are beginners i strongly suggest that you go to a vet after getting your snake i almost didnt but i wanted to sex them since im going to breed them and i found first off my older one marilyn was a girl and the new one twiggy was a boy the bad thing i found out was twiggy always made popping noises when he moved turns out he has a ligament problem ie a bad back he kept falling off me when he was out and is jumpy cuz hes in pain so thanks to the vet i know to put him on vitamins for 6 mnths then get an xray done when hes bigger.

You can bathe a snake in an inch or less of water in the bath tub. The water should be barely lukewarm, it will feel cool to the touch. Absolutely no soap should ever be used. This is an unnecessary process as the snake will shed old skin, and tends to stress the snake out more than it will help.

tha best place 2 buy a ball python is a reptile show.....u can look up wher one of them would b in ur area.....never buy a ball python from any chain of pet stores bcuz almost all of those snakes r wild caught so chances r, they probly have mites and dont feed well...w/ captive bred snakes, u should have no truble feeding them 4 tha most part
