How to Be an Activist and Change Your World Today
One. two. three , snap!. ..you're an activist. Oh to be that easy. To become an activist is to make change with your actions and to do this you need to know what actions make change. Suggestions that follow are for ecology but they work for any cause.
Spread the Word
Inform friends and acquaintances of problems and solutions.
Distribute literature.
Circulate and sign relevant petitions.
Write -- with suggestions and criticisms -- to legislature, businesses, mass media, etc.
Send postcards, letters; emails.
Telephone public officials and voice your opinion on a specific issue (call the Registrar of Voters for the representatives in your district).
Work to get coverage in newspaper and magazine ads, T.V. and radio talk shows, and through community groups such as the P.T.A.
Encourage Sound Policies
Donate money to worthwhile organizations.
Give your time to constructive changes.
Support political candidates who work for as well as talk about ecological balance.
Patronize businesses and buy products which provide ecologically superior values.
Present the issues to those who can make change.
Demonstrate against major polluters
Attend hearings; record proceedings, and give testimony.
Start an environmental section of your social or service club.
Have an ecology project for a church or school group.
