Things You Should Know Before Buying a Used Boat

Have you ever had dreams of owning your very own Bass Boat? Have you been thinking the time is right to finally be able to get out on the lakes and rivers and catch those monster bass?

If you have decided it's finally time to get serious and buy a boat, but you don't want to buy a new one or you believe buying used is a better way to go, there are some things you should consider when looking at used
 boats.

There are some very good used boats available just about every place you look. It might seem like they are hard to find but they are out there. There might be one parked behind your neighbor's garage right next door.

The first thing you should consider when looking for a used boat is what are you going to use the boat for? Is it for lazy days anchored just off shore? Is it for trolling backwater streams catching those big bass? Is for just you or will you usually have your family or a couple of buddies with you? Do you want the boat for leisure or for more intense recreation like skiing?

When you get a sense of what you are going to use the boat for you can have a pretty good idea what kind of boat you should be looking for. As you are thinking about what kind of boat you want you will also need to consider the length. If you just need something to get out on the lake but you plan to stay close to shore you might want to consider a smaller, lightweight boat with a small 5 or 10 horsepower motor. If you need to get to a fishing location hidden deep inside a cove farther away from shore, you will need a boat that is a bit larger with more horsepower. If skiing is what you want to do, you will need an even larger boat with plenty of room and horsepower.

What ever the size boat you look for there are a few things to consider as you search for your used boat.

It's a good idea to shop for used boats near a lake. There's a good chance boats that are located near a lake or in a marina have recently been in the water. Used boats that have sat outside in harsh sunlight for long periods of time without regular use will usually present a new owner with some pretty serious repairs. These type boats are better left for restoration projects.
