Max Crumm and Laura Osnes are the ones America's TV viewers want to play the lead roles in the $10 million revival of "Grease," which will open on Broadway this summer.

Crumm will play Danny Zuko and Osnes will play Sandy Dumbrowski in the lead roles.

The winners, chosen by audience votes, were announced Sunday during the season finale episode of the NBC reality series "Grease: You're the One That I Want."

After his name was announced as the winner, Crumm said, "I can't believe this. Whoa!" Crumm is originally from Phoenix and moved to Los Angeles three years ago.

Osnes was just as enthusiastic, saying, "This is my dream come true." Osness is a 20 year old from Eagan, Minn., a Minneapolis suburb.

The twosome of Crumm and Osness edged out Austin Miller and Ashley Spencer for the roles of the greaser and poodle skirt-wearing goody two shoes in the musical "Grease," set in high school in the 1950s.

The musical will open Aug. 19 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Preview performances will begin July 24.

The TV series premiered in early January with nearly 60 performers. The performers were chosen by the show's judges from auditions in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. Voting by TV viewers began several episodes into the series after the number of performers had gotten down to 12 contestants, six men and six women. Contestants performed songs from different musicals each weekly episode.

An average of 7.5 million viewers tuned into the show each week. The figure is not considered a huge amount of viewers for a TV program, but it is a huge amount for Broadway.

If the Broadway production sells out every performance, it will take 10 years for it to be seen by as many people who viewed just one episode of "Grease: You're the One That I want" on TV.

The shows three judges were David Ian, the show's Broadway producer, co-creator Jim Jacobs, and Kathleen Marshall, who will direct and choreograph the musical. Last season, Marshall directed the hit Broadway production of "The Pajama Game," which starred Harry Connick Jr.
