Lifetime Fitness Gym: Pros, Cons, U.S. Locations & Prices

Lifetime Fitness is an absolutely amazing gym that has numerous locations to chose from in many states all over the U.S. For a complete list of locations and maps, see below.

What makes Lifetime Fitness an excellent gym is that it is designed with the consumer in mind. I have been to numerous gyms and had memberships that I ultimately cancelled because I was never motivated to go. This is not the case with lifetime.

If you like to swim you will be in heaven because they have three Olympic size pools, complete with water slides for the kids. The pools are amazingly clean, up-to-date and HEATED! It's like getting into a bath!

Once you have finished swimming you can hop into a sauna or a hot tub (there's two giant ones).

In addition, you can go tanning or relax in a steam room.

The locker rooms consist of pure luxury. Marble counters and sinks, free hairdryers, complimentary lotions and conditioners and even heated towels!

If you're more of a work-out person you will be amazed by the quality of their work out equipment. They have row after row of every kind of machine you can think of. There's televisions that you can watch and even plug in your headphones and tune to the station listed and listen to the shows too.

Then there's countess activities that anyone with a membership can participate in 0 from dance classes to racquetball and even camp for the kids.

A regular membership is going to cost you a pretty penny, but remember, a membership is only worth it if you're going to use it. As mentioned I have had other gym memberships that cost only $30 a month, but since I never went, I might as well have just thrown my money in the trash. Lifetime fitness charges about $65 a month, with $250 down (one time charge). BUT if you wait until they have a special, you only pay about $200 down. PLUS if you or your spouse work for "the Big 3" or a different corporation you get a 25% discount on your down payment.

I agree with you. Lifetime sale staffs at Columbia are so rude and act like car sale men.

The St. Louis West County Life Time has made the NEWS! A child molester fondled a couple little kids in the pool. Where was the supervision? That is very scary. Check the St. Louis news if you can't believe it yourself. While I thought it was a family safe place to workout, I have now reconsidered and I am canceling my membership. I prefer the familiarity and safety of a club that ensures our kid's safety.

I have to totally disagree with some of the comments stated about Lifetime Fitness Gym. I attend the gym in Cary, NC and I've never encountered a rude staff member--actually it was the opposite. As far as clutter or crowded, this gym has so much space that it is never crowded and I go all hours of the day. For those who are viewing for the first time, one thing I'm learning is to take advise from someone or people who attends rather than disguntle people who spread incorrect information. The amount of money mentioned below is incorrect relative to membership and there are many other things stated in this blog that is incorrect. Before writing something, make sure your facts are right.

So finally our Lifetime fitness opened in West County, St. Louis. My friend is 300#'s and she never joined a club because she's insecure about her weight. She just wanted to walk laps in the pool. Her friends do this b/c the water is less painful on her joints. The first day the club was opened, she walked in ready to change her life. Her free trainer told her she had to do a test on a treadmill to assess her risk. She said she only wanted to walk in the water and is scared of treadmills. The trainer told her she had to do it before they could let her exercise. They put her on the treadmill and she told them she's uncomfortable and "I need to stop now". They said keep going, just a few more minutes. She again said "I need to stop now" again they told her a few more minutes. She then falls, breaks her shoulder and her ankle right there on the fitness floor. They didn't even call an ambulance, her son had to take her to the hospital. She's out of work for 6 weeks because of her injuries.

My comments apply to the Cary, NC gym.

I completely agree, horribly run with very little focus on customer service, which is extremely disappointing considering how much you pay to join and in monthly membership fees. The front desk staff is often rude and some of the personal trainers act like car salesmen. The gym itself is great, with tons of really good equipment and I really like some of the group fitness classes (Total Conditioning, 50/50). But, unless you want to join because the gym offers something that you can't find anywhere else (rockclimbing, true 24/7 hours), I'm not sure that it is worth the frustration of dealing with rude staff members. Find a gym that is less crowded and has a more comfortable, supportive environment.

Michael, do you have any idea what the membership rates are at the Boca LF? Someone mentioned $65/mo above, but I hears it's $200+ / mo in Boca. Thanks, Frognet200@aol.com

From my understanding they wait 10 min to page if your child is crying I would want to know if my child was crying that long or is crying because they got hurt. Remember you are only paying $5 a month if you use the childcare five days a week that is 40 hours a month that is a full work week and for someone to watch your kids that amount of time is surly going to cost you more that five dollars. They not only watch your children they interact with them with different crafts daily and organized games and activities, not to mention such a wide variety of things your child can play with on their own,

sanitary reasons it should be changed right away if they let kids with dirty diapers run around to avoid interrupting a parent working out think of what that place would smell like when you walked in how fair is that to the other children and parents in and out of there, taking 5 min out of your work out to prevent diaper rash for your child should be worth it.
