This is a very interesting island to visit. Saint Martin is the French side and Sint Maarten is the Dutch side. The island has been shared since 1648. Where there are some differences culturally, visit both sides to get the full effect of the island.
To get to Saint Martin you will fly either directly into Saint Martin from New York, or if coming in from other areas you may fly in direct or connect through San Juan Puerto Rico a neighboring area. Plan to stay around seven days so that you can relax and visit both sides of the island.
Saint Martin awaits you and your wallet, as the shopping is awesome. Great prices on fine jewelry, art, and perfumes, you won't be able to leave without buying something pretty.
When you visit the Dutch side Sint Maarten go prepared to gamble, as there are casinos available. Regardless of which side of the island you are on there is a lot to do. There are water sports, duty free shopping, nightclubs, awesome beaches, and more. You just need to show up because Sint Maarten and Saint Martin awaits you. The Dutch side Sint Maarten also offers nude bathing to those who care to indulge. You will find a few stores selling Dutch items, stop in and check them out, as most are authentic. On the French side where Saint Martin awaits you, plan on going horseback riding, hiking, and definitely go diving.
