Confessions of a Tim Horton's Coffee Addict

An Experiment in Taste

Long before I ever saw the commercial for Tim Horton's coffee, that exposed the Tim Horton's secret ingredient conspiracy, I knew that Tim Horton's coffee was different. From the first sip, I was hooked. Tim Hortons has been brewing coffee since 1964, but until recently, the freshly
brewed Tim Horton's coffee could only be savored by Canadians. Today, Tim Hortons now has approximately 400 Tim Hortons Restaurants in the United States and 2000 in Canada.

Tim Hortons Coffee Conspiracy Rumors

I am not alone in my Tim Hortons coffee addiction. In fact, there are so many others who are hooked on Tim Hortons coffee, that all types of rumors have surfaced to explain the phenomenon. One urban legend declared that Tim Hortons coffee has the secret additive of nicotine in the coffee. Another rampant rumor is that Tim Hortons coffee has higher levels of caffeine in the coffee. Both of these rumors have been tested and proved untrue, yet the mystery of Tim Hortons coffee continues.

An alternative conspiracy theory about Tim Hortons coffee centers on the rumor that Tim Hortons coffee has MSG in it. Much like the high caffeine and the nicotine rumors, this rumor also proved to be generated by the imaginations of suspicious Tim Hortons coffee drinkers. While there may be psychological addiction to Tim Hortons coffee, and a craving for caffeine, for the average Tim Hortons coffee drinker, there is absolutely no evidence of a secret addicting ingredient.

Roll Up the Rim to Win and Buy More Coffee

Each year, Tim Hortons fuels coffee consumers' need for a second cup by sponsoring the Tim Hortons "Roll Up the Rim to Win" contest. Consumers of Tim Hortons coffee and cappuccinos can purchase a small, medium, or large sized Tim Hortons beverage and get a chance to win one of thirty million prizes. Tim Hortons gives away SUVs, bikes, televisions, and many rounds of coffee and doughnuts in this popular "Roll Up the Rim to Win" giveaway. Each specially designed Tim Hortons cup has a prize or a "please play again" message underneath the rim of the contest cups. The estimated odds of winning a free coffee are 1 in 9.

Hallo there, I'm doing research on Tim Horton's coffee drinking, more specifically Tim Horton's and/as a religion. If you could follow this link and do a short 5 minutes survey for me it would be much appreciated. Thank you so much in advance. And if you have any questions or comment, or even just want to say hi, feel free to contact me. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=0FQ4CREAlgc72gOWnN3zqw_3d_3d

The coffee maker is as important as the coffee. The hot water Tim's uses is nearly 200F. Most home coffee makers are not even close. This makes a significant different in the extraction of flavours.

To answer your question, "hi there. I've bought the tins of tims, and the individiual bags to brew at home. How do you get the same taste as the store. The coffee truck that comes to our work and he says he add something to it?" You need to use 18% cream to get the same taste of it.

It's funny that you suspect that Tim uses Nabob coffee for I've always had a preferance for it and I do LOVE Timmy's! The flavour IS comparable.

The closest taste in brew coffee to Hortons brew coffee, is Nabob's Tradition fine grind medium roast. Almost indistinguishable from Hortons own. Slightly cheaper in the stores, but never on sale ala MJB, Maxwell House or Folgers. I suspect Hortons coffee is indeed Nabob Tradition medium roast fine grind. Of course with a Red Hortons label.

I work there, and we always keep the coffee fresh, the most popular order at my store is the large double double, and that's what I'd recommend. =]
