Shampoo and condition separately. No two in one conditioners are good for your hair. Shampoo has certain molecules that strip hair of oils, dirt and product build-up. Your scalp forms a small layer of oil to protect itself from various natural elements (wind, sun, etc.). Conditioners restore this moisture, not only to your scalp but your hair itself. If you're using a two in one the shampoo it will just wash out the conditioner that is mixed with it.

Wash your hair in cool or cold water. The outer covering of your hair strand is made up of tiny scales called the cuticle. The cuticle protects your hair and effects how smooth or frizzy your hair is. Warm air and water opens your cuticle while cold water closes the cuticle down. If you have artificially colored hair this could save the color. Washing your hair in cooler water, or even just zapping it after washing it will make your hair shinier, smoother and more vibrant.

Don't stretch your hair. Wet hair is extremely fragile. Never brush out your hair when it's wet. Use a wide-tooth comb and work your way up from the bottom of your hair. This also means no tight buns, pony tails, or other hairstyles. One type of hairloss, called traction alopecia, is caused from things such as these. Stretching your hair can also cause undo breakage to the midstrand and split ends.

Ask your stylist about professional products. Although salon prices may seem high, the quality is worth it. If you get the right one. Most people who are unhappy with a salon product, aren't using it right. Tell your stylist what you don't like about your hair and what you want to accomplish . Your stylist can guide you in the right direction to the hair that you have always wanted.

Ask your stylist how to style your hair. This goes hand in hand with the statement above. If you buy products, or get a style that you love your going to have to know how to use it, right? Your stylist can show you how to use your products and styling equiptment the right way. It may take some practice but soon you'll get the look you want.
