Horses have been integral to the progress of civilization since they were first domesticated to the day they were finally replaced by the train and automobile. They've also managed to take their place in video games as well and in some places can be extremely compelling.

Agro of Shadow of the Colossus There is no other game in existence where the bond between a horse and its rider is as strong as the bond between Wander and Agro. The most amazing part of their bond is that only words that are spoken are through Wander when he calls out to Agro from a distance, yet, the gamer cannot help but see the bond between the two. Whether it's in the middle of be chased by a gigantic colossus that moves through the sand as a fish would move through water or moving through the breathtaking landscape of a forbidden world, there isn't enough to be said about Agro's loyalty. However, there is one significant moment when heading towards the last colossus where the momentous relationship shared between the two is shown. When crossing a bridge, Agro leaps across and begins to gallop across the crumbling apparatus until he comes to the end and has run out of time. Rather than simply giving up, he shoves Wander to the other side, saving his life while he plummets into a gargantuan canyon and its river below.

Epona of The Legend of Zelda First appearing as a young foal in the Ocarina of Time, little did most gamers know that Epona would eventually grow to become Link's loyal steed. By way of the Ocarina and learning a song, Epona learned to like Link and eventually raced to freedom with Link as her rider. From thereon, Epona will ride to Link's side whenever Epona's song is played. Epona returns in Majora's Mask, though you lose her for a certain amount of time before she's returned. Twilight Princess also features Epona, though it is debatable as to whether or not this is actually Epona, as the player is free to name the horse whatever they please--though the default name is Epona
