Back on the wrong side of the tracks, Obie Trice has been penning his rhyme and recording it with a little help from Slim Shady, aka Eminem. Cheers was released on Em's imprint, Shady Records (Parental Advisory).Bullets fly, crack sells, b*tches hustle, bruthuz go down and the bass keeps pumpin'. Personally, I like the cover of this disc, which features Trice (in black and white) framed in green and white toasting us with a brandy snifter, underscored by curly font ironically reminiscent of the famous sign from the Boston watering hole Cheers (think Sam Malone).
Track 3, "Got Some Teeth," takes the late night bar theme and rides a fresh beat with a hooky and funny chorus: "This here's my favorite song/ I sing along when the dj throws it on/ and if I leave here tonight and I fall asleep and wake up/ hopefully she's got some teeth."
Trice is joined on the disc by other rap artists, including Eminem Nate Dogg, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Lloyd Banks of G-Unit and D-12. The wordplay comes fast and furious and the vibe that spawned the hit film Eight Mile (and other Eminem efforts) is present throughout.
Obie and Em have gathered the boyz form their musical hood in the studio for an outing that gets good and jiggy. Don't miss "Don't Come Down," "Sh*t Hits the Fan," "We All Die One Day," "Follow My LIfe," "Hoodrats," "Oh!" "Never Forget Ya," and "Outro."
Trice thanks the now famous Slim in the liner notes by saying: "Em - good luck getting me off the street."
If this disc keeps selling like it has, that just might happen. Trice was the second artist to be signed to Shady Records after D-12.
