If all pregnant women had a choice, they would choose not to have stretch marks. Unfortunately, that choice does not exist. As a matter of fact, 75-90% of pregnant women accumulate stretch marks sometime throughout their pregnancy. They may be on their breasts, on their stomach, on their butt, or on their hips. Wherever these stretch marks may be, they are usually unwelcome. Although most of the time, the appearance of stretch marks depends on your gene pool , there are some things you can do to prevent them.

Preventing Pregnancy Stretch Marks: Water
Water is a magic potion for the human body. It hydrates the skin which makes it appear more healthy and elastic. The more elastic your skin is, the more it can stretch for your growing baby. Think about your hands when they get dry. They begin to crack. If you stomach gets too dry during pregnancy, you may end up with more stretch marks.

Preventing Pregnancy Stretch Marks: Balanced Diet
Eating a balanced diet during pregnancy not only gives you and your baby the nutrients you need, but it also controls your weight gain. If you eat a diet based on the food pyramid, you will only gain 25-35 pounds. Gaining over this amount increases the risk of pregnancy stretch marks.

Preventing Pregnancy Stretch Marks: Massage
The technique of massage brings extra blood flow and circulation to particular areas of the body. If you have areas that are prone to stretch marks, take a warm washcloth and gently rub these areas every day. The extra circulation may help to prevent further marks.

Preventing Pregnancy Stretch Marks: Moisturize
If you apply a generous amount of body oil and or cream to your largest areas, you will help to prevent stretch marks. Keeping skin moisturized and supple promotes elasticity. The lotion also provides vitamins that boost collagen production. Collagen helps to keep skin healthy while it is stretched to it's limit during pregnancy.

This is a great article no doubt. But after having six kids and soon to be seven in three months, I have to say that NOTHING worked for me.. I rubbed, gelled, blew, drank and did anything possible to stop them and I still got them... I think it just depends on how pliable your skin is.... :-)
