So you got a gym membership for your New Year's resolution? It is still possible to stick to a gym membership. Follow these tips and enjoy a new, healthier lifestyle.

Evaluating Your Gym Membership Tip #1: Remember Why You Joined

Remember why you got a gym membership. The primary reason was probably to get healthier. For some it might be losing weight. For others it might be to simply exercise more and get firm.

Your goals and reasons for a gym membership are still valid reasons. If you have stopped going to the gym, focus again on the original reasons for going. You can never be too healthy. If you lost all the weight, you still need to maintain it.

Evaluating Your Gym Membership Tip #2: Set a Schedule

Busy lifestyles can sometimes make gym membership difficult. Just as we schedule other important events in our lives, schedule gym visits. Make it a priority to visit the gym at a set time each week. If others ask you to do something during that time period, politely tell them no and go to the gym.

Evaluating Your Gym Membership Tip #3: Cost Evaluate

Sit down and evaluate how much it cost you each time you visit the gym. Gym memberships are not cost effective if you stop going to the gym. You have to pay the dues whether you are there or not. You have invested money in the gym membership and in your health. The money is already spent. You might as well go to the gym.

Evaluating Your Gym Membership Tip #4: Find a Partner

Find a work out partner that attends the gym on approximately the same schedule as you do. A gym partner will make it more difficult to skip a scheduled gym visit because you know that someone else is depending on you being at the gym. In addition, gym partners can help the work out from seeming dull or boring.

Evaluating Your Gym Membership Tip #5: Believe in Yourself

Often gym memberships are dropped because people become hopeless. You stop believing that you can achieve your goals and dreams. Going to the gym seems pointless and futile. Take time to really believe in yourself. Believe in your goals and your dreams. Make a point to attend the gym to reach those goals and dreams. You can do it.

Takeaways
  • Work out with a partner to optimize your gym membership.
  • Set a schedule to attend the gym regularly.

I remember when my best friend and I went to a gym, she insisted we both join. I decided to think about it, she joined. Later (after neither of us ever returned) she had a huge problem with her bank because the gym kept up their part by billing her checking account monthly. If you join, make sure you really want a gym membership!

gym memberships can become hard to maintain. my gym allows you to put your membership on hold for a number of months if you know you won't be using it...great feature!

Great advice! I've been wanting to get a gym membership for a while now but keep coming up with reasons why I shouldn't. These sound like great things for me to consider when I actually do get up the courage to join.

Definitely some things people need to think about. Fortunately I'm still a college student and have access to the weightroom, and other facilities. That said, for a lot of people it might be more inexpensive to invest in some small dumbbells and resistance tubing and order a few helpful videos or to and do weights in their own house. It's less time consuming - that's for sure.
