It's hard to quit any habit but it can be done. Biting your nails is really hard on your nails and makes them thin and brittle. It can also lead to flaking of the nails which leads to holes in the nails which can be very painful. It's also very hard on your teeth because it wears down the enamel and
it eventually wears down to the nerve which will hurt constantly. If you follow my steps you will be free from biting your nails in no time.

The first thing you need to do, is WANT to stop biting your nails. If you are here reading this than the odds are that you do really want to stop biting your nails. Next you need a reason to keep your nails looking nice. Put some scented lotion on your hands and rub it into your nails and skin surrounding your nails. Next you will want to push your cuticles back and trim the excess skin around your nails which will prevent any hangnails from forming and getting snagged on something.

I would purchase some type of polish which strengthens your nails which will usually be clear in color. They have a wide selection to choose from at stores such as Walmart and Walgreens. You will also want to buy a set of nails which look nice that will cover your current nails. You can buy a nice set of nails which look like a french manicure for $6.99 and you will get 2 full sets of nails. Keep each set on as long as you can and make sure to file them really short as you are not used to having long nails they will break off easily and get bumped on many different things.

If you can keep these nails on for 3 weeks then you have kicked that nail biting habit. It takes 3 weeks to stop a habit. Keep gum around and other things to chew on and keep your mouth occupied. Once you have made it past the first week than you will be home free. You will not feel the urge to continue biting your nails. If a stressful situation comes up make sure you have something to chew on. If you give in and start chewing your nails again follow these steps over and believe in yourself. You will be free from biting your nails in no time!

I disagree with the it takes 3 weeks to kill a habit. I get gel nails put on to try to get me to stop chewing my nails. I will have them on for months, and then as soon as I get them taken off, I chew my nails again. I think that it takes a lot more time and effort then 3 little weeks.
