When the sun and sand just aren't enough, settling in for a tropical drink at the bar is the next area of diversion and exploration in Tampa Bay. Even though you'll find plenty of options for dining and relaxing in Ybor City, it's easy to miss some key hotspots for cocktails and happy hour in Tampa.
Best Places for Cocktails in Tampa Bay
From exotic concoctions to signature smoothies infused with liqueur, here are just a few of the best places for cocktails in Tampa Bay:

The Rare Olive is your spot for a classic martini and more. It's an understated destination on 300 Central Avenue, but is filled with a steady buzz inside its quaint quarters with live jazz music and plenty of bar stools and lounge chairs to unwind. Don't be surprised to hear a British accent or two; this is a popular spot for European tourists and the pints of beer are readily available to cater to their tastes. The Rare Olive is right in St. Petersburg, and you'll find plenty to tune into at this venue. Grab an order of chips and salsa along with the extensive signature martini menu and you'll be all set for a fun night.

It's Caribbean flavor and palm trees galore at Chateau Prive at St. Bart's Island House. This Tampa tradition has served a French-Caribbean gourmet dinner menu for over 18 years, and the restaurant specializes in crab and oyster dishes for those seafood fans. When you're here for cocktails, be sure to ask for the tapas menu as you sink into the plush lounge chairs in the bar area. With over 30 options for appetizers and snacks, you're sure to find something to complement that rum tasting. Chateau Prive can be found at 1502 S Howard Avenue.

As you head out to Harbour Island Boulevard, don't miss the offering at Jackson's Bistro-Bar-Sushi. This chic and modern bar is home to one of the best views of the area; you can sit pretty on the enormous outdoor deck as you sip on your martini, crisp white wine, or tropical drink of choice. Gourmet dining options make this a great spot for a special dinner, but cocktails at the bar before an evening on the beach are a great opportunity to explore the area. Jackson's is located at 601 S. Harbour Island Blvd.

Correction to your article - I have lived in Tampa since 1994 and St Bart's/Chateau Prive has not been in business under that name for 18 years. The previous restaurant there was called Le Bordeaux which featured wonderful French food and which I have eaten at many times, including a wonderful New Year's Eve dinner with my new hubby in 1995. The bar around by the pool was then called The Left Bank. Owner Gordon Davis decided a few years back to change the style of the restaurant to one featuring Caribbean/French West Indies cuisine and St Bart's was born.
