How to Be Environmentally Friendly with the Little Things, Part 2
Being environmentally is very important, and we should take steps to do our part in conserving what we have been given. Stewardship of the entire world should be an important part of our life while we live. The most simple, and often the best, way to start on your journey as an environmentally frien
dly person is to begin paying attention to the small things in our lives.
Last time, in Part 1, we covered the importance of conserving water, and some ideas on how to cut down on water usage. Here, in Part 2, let us take a look at one driving, for work and for recreation in today's Western world.
In most United States cities, people drive their own vehicle wherever they want to go, whenever they want to. Public transportation is often ignored, unless you happen to live in a larger city. Even still, the general public doesn't seem to utilize our nation's public transportation systems anywhere as much as some other modern countries. Our vehicle emissions are a significant polluter in today's world, and we should keep this in mind when we plan our day out. First off, if it is possible, try to use busses, subways, and other forms of mass transit, or carpool with friends.
It will help the environment, and it will save money, especially with today's high gas prices! Secondly, if you have to drive, try to plan out your daily activities/drives in a way to maximize fuel efficiency and usage. Avoid unneeded accelerating, aka 'rabbit starts', and make sure to break well ahead of stoplights, avoiding the 'rabbit stops.' This will help save gas, thereby cutting down on emissions and on money spent on gas.
