First off, let me say, I like LeBron James. Or, what I know of him. He seems to be among the few young, professional, black, rich athletes who has himself together. No baby mama drama, no drug history, no gun charges, no rap sheet, etc.

Heck, by a lot of standards, he's it made without being one of the highest paid athletes in NBA history (Cleveland Cavaliers).

Hatin' on LeBron's House

Quite simply, it's the money. LeBron has stated that his goal is to be the world's first billionaire athlete (no, Tiger's not there - yet!) Dude, if you make purchases like this, it ain't gonna happen. Why?

Well, with real estate, the thing is location, location, location. There ain't that many folk in OHIO who are in the market for a 7-figure, 11-bedroom home. If he's traded, who's gonna buy it?

FYI, the house is being built on 5.6 acres of land, will have 11 bedrooms, a casino, a bowling alley and a barbershop. Projected Cost: $2.1 million. What, no pool, no basketball court?

Now, if the house was in a location that could support this type of grandiosity, eg, Miami, New York, Los Angeles - even Chicago - well, maybe not so much of a concern. BUT, Cleveland is not exactly known for glitz and glamour.

It's not likely to attract: jet setters looking for second homes; the rich and famous seeking some fun in the sun; the fabulously wealthy and board seeking some divine shopping (a la Rodeo Drive).

So, he'll have to hope that a new Target will go up, or that Walmart wants to open a new location because, should he leave Cleveland, he's either gonna have to keep paying that mortgage,or unload it as a commercial property.

How Much House is Too Much House?

This McMansion got me to thinking, "How much house is too much house?"

As this is a free country, you can buy what your wallet can afford, but when you look at the past, it's only in recent years that we've become enamored with what I call "super houses." Americans are supersizing their living quarters, and every stat supports that. Eg:

According to the National Homebuilders Association, the average square footage of a home in the US has increased more than 800 square feet since the mid-70s.

The author who wrote the article is a total blowhard. Why do you feel you have the right to think for a man who's done quite well for himself-without your help. Do you know for certain that Lebron wants to sell HIS house someday? Remember, it's HIS money and HIS house you loser. Oh yeah, your comment about Lebron being a rich black athlete that has his stuff together sounds like the words of someone who hasn't spent much time with black people, rich people, or any people for that matter. Do you know your comments may strike many as a little backwards? I don't want to accuse someone of racism, but how about ignorance?

dumb, condescending article for a bunch of reasons, not the least of which is that James is from Akron/Cleveland, and almost certainly would keep the house regardless of uniform (it might have occurred to the writer that maybe, just maybe he'd be able to handle a second -- or for that matter, a fourth or tenth mortgage on extravagant homes anywhere on the planet). after all, his mom and relatives live in the area). and while ostentation is certainly more in line with some folks in places like LA, NYC, Miami, perhaps even Chicago and Atlanta, it's laughable to suggest that super wealth is somehow synonymous with/exclusive to the glitz and glamour crowd, and that the only people who live in ultra opulent homes are movie-stars, rappers, and professional athletes. in fact, most people who live in the real lap of luxury are quite decidedly NOT from that crowd. on the other hand, it's also silly to think there AREN'T certain people, from NE Ohio, or anywhere else, who would be in

who ever wrote this article is stupid and worthless. first off i am from cleveland , i loved it it is the perfect place. i live in Laguna Beach now its very nice but i truely (and surprisingly)miss the snow. some of the richest people live in the cuyahoga area. of coarse when it comes to money LA is way ahead of Ohio. but i like lebron. i think that he will not fit in the west coast if he comes here. but hey maybe he will live by me but i live on a cliff so there isn;t much room. note to LB stay with cleveland they are loyal fans. btw save your money lb, be a role model.

THATS JUST GREEDY!

Dude LeBron's house is 17 million, not 2.1. I think that guy meant the barbershop and the casino cost that much? Well anyways, his house is 17 MILLION!

I did a 1,200 square foot add on to my house for $600,000. How does a 35,000 square foot house cost 2.1 million. That's a deal if I have ever heard one. What is that journalist talking about "stupidly"?
