I made the switch from Comcast Broadband to Verizon Fios. Well, the fact is that my lady made the switch for me. But the account is in my name so I had to give my OK. Realistically, I would have gone for it if it did not make sense. For the last 2 years everyone in our neighborhood had the same chal
lenges with Comcast. We all have complained and had the special order crew out to our houses regularly. Six months ago, I dealt with cable outages and Internet outages for lengthly periods. The Comcast service had so much mircroblocking I learned how to diagnose the problem. I learned of all the error code and consistently called. Since I work quite often from home, the outages made business particularly difficult. We received Comcast credits for service amounting up to $400. We also have special order service calls to rewire and hardwire the the entire house. We literally had at least a weeks worth of visits from Comcast to fix our problems. Ironically, I think some of our problems were caused by Verizon setting up their fios network. Regardless, for the last 6 months we have not had a single problem. We have paid on time ever time. Our only problem was the price. So to save money we switched.

I had a conversation with my neighbor about the switch. He informed me that he was having problems with Comcast Broadband Internet service. Ironically, he said that he rents his box from comcast for their wireless broadband web connection. He and his wife both were having issues with the Comcast Broadband connection. Of course, his wife blamed him which meant it was up to him to fix it. He spoke to comcast about their broadband issues. Comcast informed them that they were no longer able to be on the web at the same time. Also they were inconsistently drooped by Comcast Broadband connection. He spoke to comcast and was informed that they simply no longer support the wireless box he uses for Internet connect. Mind you, the wireless box he uses is one he rents monthly from comcast. To say the least he was not happy with is comcast service. After he gave me the the updates on his Comcast Broadband disappointment, I gave him 5 points I learned about the Verizon Fios.

It could be your location that makes the difference, not the companies technical strengths/weaknesses. I'm ready to switch from Comcast though because in my area of the world the internet service sucks from Comcast although they promise better things are coming re speed. We cannot have more than one computer on the net at at time.

"Since I work quite often from home, the outages made business particularly difficult." Comcast Terms Of Service The Service is for personal and non-commercial residential use only and you agree not to use the Service for operation as an Internet service provider or for any business enterprise or purpose (whether or not for profit); So technically, you shouldn't have been getting any service at all, because you used the service for a business purpose.

Keep in mind that Comcast cheats like crazy on speedtest sites. They offer good speeds for the first few seconds of any download which skews tests in their favor. Sustained speeds are where the real comparison should be made. Check out my review for more information and proof of what I'm talking about: http://www.jimgoings.com/2008/03/fios-vs-comcast-real-world-comparison.html

obviously you do not know how to work the prompts. any retard with a telephone can get on and push buttons. the automated system is designed to save you time and get you to the right area. fios has the most consistent and highest speeds available from any network and the potential of their fiber to the home network is virtually unlimited. what other company can provide 100/100 speeds without affecting a single person on the street???? the choice is clear

Actually Verizon is the first (and only company currently) to run Fiber from the Pole to the side of the house. So.. theres that. The channels are better, the internet IS faster. Comcast reaches a peak 3 megs down (with boost gargbage) while verizon maintains a consistant 5. For the price theyve got, plus a free install on all the fiber, I think you'd have to be dumb not to see the obvious advantages of verizon, not to mention it's often times ALOT cheaper than comcast after their "price lock" promotion is up

The product is excellent but the service sucks. The installer will do a crappy job, if they show up, we had three no-shows. Not only that they never even called us after the no-shows we had to call them. Call this number for support, 1-888-553-1555, try it now. You will speak to a freaking computer for 30 minutes before you can talk to anybody that can help you. Even worse the recording will let you hold for 30 minutes just to tell you that the department is closed. I wanted to cancel the T.V. service, but my wife wouldn't let me. Verizon Fios will walk all over you just like the cable companies and if you think a 4 hour window is bad, try an 8 hour window. Finally the directv HD channels are still clear than Verizon's HD. The regular channels are better on Verizon but the HD is better on Directv, not sure why or how, but it's true.

My sister moved to FiOS, I don't have have the service here, so I'm forced to stay with Comcast. I'm no fan of Comcast for other reasons, but I did NOT find the FiOS network to be faster in side by side tests using speedtest.net. Comcast had 2X faster downloads, 1/2 the ms wait times, and the same upload speed. I use skype as my VoIP phone, so I don't need either pakage. Sure seems like the people hyping FiOS have a bias somewhere...

I just switched to Verizon FIOS from Comcast broadband. One other nice perk is that they bundled my phone service with my internet. I'm now paying the same price for both phone (local and long distance, all at a fixed monthly price for all I can eat) together with my broadband as I was for just the phone service before. Not sure what they'll do once my 2-year contract is up, but we'll see. Looks like they realize that they're competing with companies like Vonage once they upgrade someone to FIOS, so they lower the price of the phone service in order to keep customers from jumping to someone elses VOIP.

Im pretty sure that comcast uses fiber optic on the pole as well; it doesnt directly go to your house which is only a small difference. The speed difference is not that great with v@15/2 and c@16/1 for $10 more. Nice article overall.

Verizon is good.. though the price does increase a bunch. But it still beats the other one by a mile http://cashflowstoo.com/answers.php
