There is more information available today about dieting than any other popular subject. For many of us, all of this dieting information is confusing and many times is conflicting. We've all heard that, ultimately, getting down to that trim shape and being healthy is based on eating right and exercis
e. Sounds simple. Actually, it is. To be successful, you will need to make an investment of time to educate yourself about food and exercise. The next element is to change unproductive habits to good habits, leading you on the road to a great body and health.

First let's look at exercise. Resistance exercise, such as lifting weights, builds up strength muscles. Aerobics, such as running, cycling, swimming, and walking, builds up endurance muscles, increases your blood circulation, and helps to condition the heart. Over time, in many cases, you will lower your blood pressure. One key factor is muscles burn fat. Athletes, like Lance Armstrong, have a very lean body mass, with very little body fat. Since his ratio of fat to muscle is low, he is very efficient in burning fat. On the other hand, the Bill Cosby character, Fat Albert, has a much higher fat content to muscle and will be much less efficient in burning fat. If you want to lose weight and have a leaner body mass (fat to muscle ratio), you will need to do some form of resistance training. If you have posture problems, many times by simply strengthening these muscles you will feel a lot better. Performing some form of aerobics, or simply walking for 30 minutes a day will really pick up your circulation and make a big difference in how you feel.
