The Master Article Archive

Would you like to know how to create a subject-based article index on Freewebs? Freewebs is a free web space and hosting site that is well-suited to creating an article index. An article index is a convenient way to keep track of published articles by topic. They can also be alphabetized or organize
d in any fashion that you find easy to navigate.

Because this is a time-consuming process, the tutorial has been broken down into different parts.

How to Create the Master Article Archive

Set up a Freewebs Account

1. Create a free web site on Freewebs by signing up for an account. Pick a name for your site, which will be www.freewebs.com/your site name here.

2. Pick a Template

Pick a template on Freewebs that suits your style. It's easy enough to change it later, as many times as you want, so don't waste too much time on picking an initial template. It is more useful to choose the right template and finalize the look once the content is on the web site, and the article index is created.

3. Choose Web Site Details

4. Next, pick a name, three subject categories, and your location (country).

Create Your Master Article Archive

The Master Article Archive is basically a place for all of your articles by date.

Before categorizing all of the articles by subject, create a master index of all articles. Organize the articles chronologically by week, month, or year, depending on how many articles there are.

The reason to create a main index is to make it easier to change the font type and size on all of the articles, to create uniformity. This may seem time consuming, but the time you spend now organizing published articles will save you time later.

1. Click on Site Manager and then select "Add New Page." Name the page, "Article Archive Year." It is best to create the master index on one or two pages because you will want to use the other pages for subjects. In Freewebs, the free service only allows for the creation of 20 pages.

Melanie - 1. Organization - I find it time-consuming to look for previously pub'd artciles on AC - there is no subject grouping on our CP pages. 2. I can refer people to just specific topics - exercise, nutrition, local articles, etc. 3. Easier to promote off of AC. I can find all my articles about writing very quickly. Hope this helps.

By doing what Pam is doing Melanie, she can control how and where the content on her own personal website goes. Also, by adding her new articles to her pages also allows for her to gain higher rankings with the search engines. There are many ways a person can do what Pam is explaining with her series.

Very nice article Pam. I already have one of these going with Freewebs. I have so far have 5 categories set up for mine, but then again I have a premium account for the one I am using for this so I can break them down into further categories. I do have a free account where I do have AC articles on it as well. That one is a dedicated site for one specific topic which works well too.

A very informative article - though not sure what it gives you above your CP page?

Sounds like a great way to promote your articles too.
