The objective of this action plan is to focus, define and reinvent the leadership model of the organization into a leadership paradigm based on a designed confluence of several leadership models. Howe
ver, in order to first focus the concept of leadership around a more concrete structure, leadership must be defined: "...influencing others...toward the attainment of a goal...directing or inspiring people to attain organizational goals. Leaders...facilitate the movement of a group of people toward a common goal...Leadership is an influence process" (Harvey, 2001, para.9). With this broad concept of leadership and the focused leader, a more humanistic approach to management can be molded into the model since this method is effective at empowering people towards organization goals as well as self-fulfillment. This type of leadership tends to:
...commit themselves to the interest of their followers and...work...to produce effective organizations...to respect workers and encourage their growth as human beings. Such leaders...turn skepticism into trust, selfishness into collaboration, individual ambition into commitment to the general good, and fear into love. (Harvey, 2001, para.21)
By refocusing leadership to exactly what leadership entails and then stressing a broad humanistic approach to management, the organization can better facilitate its strategic leadership change into a model more reflective, responsive and adaptive to current trends in the global environment. Goals
This organization's leadership change is to be based on the precepts of servant leadership (Polleys, 2002, para.10) and these have been incorporated into the project goals in the following manner:
1) Listening: Every manager is tasked with implementing one documented method that demonstrates he/she is soliciting constructive feedback from his/her direct reports. This method is to be documented and a model thereof presented to executive management within 30 days.
