These days, Rosie O'Donnell is quite the controversial celebrity. This is a far cry from the stand up comedian, star of "A League of Their Own" and daytime talk show host from a few years back. Her well publicized spats with Kelly Ripa, the producers of American Idol and of course, Donald Trump are front page news of every tabloid magazine and entertainment news show. She evokes strong emotions either for or against on every topic she chooses to speak about. There is one reason for that. She speaks the truth.

Her truth. The truth how she sees it. And the truth is often difficult to hear. Whether Rosie is talking about Gay marriage or the war in Iraq, her passion and truth are conveyed so intensely, you can feel her integrity. This is a woman who is not afraid of media backlash. Fearless in expressing an unpopular opinion. I applaud that.

I admire her openness with regards to her battles with depression and weight loss. This is a real woman. A woman who has suffered loss, loneliness and pain. Despite achieving great success and more wealth than most of us could ever dream of, this is a woman who you feel like you could sit down and tell your problems to, and she would understand. I encourage everyone to read her autobiography, "Find Me".

Rosie O'Donnell lost her mother to cancer at the age of ten. I too, lost my mother to cancer. When she speaks about being a motherless daughter, it is my emotions she speaks of. My pain that she is expressing. Rosie is a mother of four. She is raising her children without the priceless guidance of her mother. Unfortanately, I too am a member of that club. A club you would never volunteer to join, of which there is no declining of the invitation.

I still love Rosie. I miss seeing her on the View and don't watch the show anymore.

There are great myths that this country buys into. Doing so is not an act of self interest. Ideas are crammed into unthinking minds to control the masses and promote some very bad political and commercial agendas. I love Rosie, imperfect though she may be, because she spits in the eye of the liars that control the crooked agendas of this nation. She is more interested in what's real and just and has the courage to speak out in spite of what "conventional wisdom" may dictate. As a married white male, 63 years old, with a clear conscience, I see in Rosie, some hope that there are a few people out there still willing to do their own thinking. Good for her!!!

I used to really like Rosie, but I don't anymore. Although you can dislike someone and still admire qualities about them. She *does* say what she thinks, I just happen to not agree. Well written article, though.

Damn Lisa... looks like you attracted a tough crowd with this one. Let me step up and say I also admire and adore Rosie. She is right on the vast majority of her stances, and as you say, she doesn't give one wit what the press says. Go Rosie!

I think Rosie has some nerve berating the very democracy that made her rich and famous. I don't agree with (most) of her views, but I have to give her credit for standing up to the Donald...about time someone did!

She annoys me..actually she always did, I have never been a fan and have never cared for her acting and when she had her own talk show....ugh

Nope, I despise her and consider her a menace. Even if I agreed with everything she ever said, she's obnoxious because she doesn't let anyone talk against what she says, ever. She's exactly the sort of person I just walk away from. Outspoken is fine; rude is not.
