I pulled up to my parking spot. A young man was looking blankly into his car's engine compartment. "What's wrong?" He replied,"Won't start." I looked into the engine compartment. The battery had a dent in it from sliding about. The top of his battery's connection brimmed with white crusts. The young
man had many tools on hand and could have cleaned the terminals and avoided a great deal of aggravation, but he did not know what to do prior to breaking down. Cars are not as easy to work on as they used to be. I looked into a new car at a dealership and became vexed in seeing that the manufacturer had put the battery low in the engine compartment where it would require professional shop equipment to replace that battery! It is extremely important for the consumer to be able to do "emergency" repairs to their vehicles. That ability to easily transport ourselves is one of the major selling points in buying a vehicle product. For most of us car owners, the battery is fairly reachable. With a little know-how you can do your basic repairs.

Batteries can be bought at automotive stores and many consumer stores such as a Wal-Mart. Each store chain has it's own pricing and brands that they carry. A car battery's quality is greatly judged by the battery's cold cranking amps. Your recommended car battery information is often found in the manuals that came with your car. Another source of information will be the old battery itself. Amp ratings and voltage are often printed upon battery labels. Often, cross-reference books are printed by battery manufacturers and they may be left out as a service to customers of auto parts store chains. If all else fails, you may try calling the auto parts store to ask about the price of a new battery for your car. You can either take the best option that the parts dealer recommends or you can try to get the employee to tell you what he sees upon his information chart.
