Despite what he would lead you to believe by popping his face in every UFC promotional spot like he was Puff Daddy in a Notorious BIG video, Dana White may actually be the worst person in the UFC and all of mixed martial arts. Yes, he has led the charge to bring the UFC and all of MMA to the mainstream, but he is making a mockery of himself and the sport and is hurting it in potentially irrevocable ways.Here are the top 5 reasons that Dana White may just be the worst person in the UFC and all of mixed martial arts.
1. Dana White underpays UFC fighters
As I've discussed previously, Dana White underpays the fighters in the UFC by an insane margin. The fighters don't even come close to sniffing the money that they are solely responsible for generating. For example, for UFC 100, billed as the "biggest night in the history UFC", the UFC paid a total of approximately $2.2 million to all of the fighters on the card that night, which includes $400,000 of special bonuses.
Lesnar is reported to make about $3 million including his share of the pay-per-view sales, which is an extra $2.6 million from his salary. Georges St. Pierre is also set to receive a share of the PPV, so let's just assume that totals out to another $2.6 million for him as well, because it certainly wouldn't be more. The result is $7.4 million paid to UFC fighters for the UFC 100 event, about $6 million of which went to 2 fighters, leaving the other 18 fighters to divvy up the remains.
The live attendance gate for the fight was $5.1 million. Dana White said he'd be thrilled with 1.5 million pay-per-view buys, so let's just underestimate that at a cool 1 million buys, which the UFC has done before, at $45 a pop. That's a total of $50 million generated not including foreign rights, closed circuit distribution and other earnings. That means, even tweaking the figures in his favor, Dana White and the UFC paid 15% of the money they earned that night to all of the fighters combined. Outrageous.

If there is one thing I really hate about the UFC its how hard these guys train and the risk they put themselves in, only to get peanuts in return while Dana is raking in all the cash. As crooked as boxing may seem sometimesn and as hard as Dana rips boxing for the way they do thing he might be the most crooked guy of them all.
I think Dana even controls what ring music the fighters walk in with :)

If there was no UFC, MMA would be a more competitive sport like boxing. The cream would naturally rise to the top with cross promotion. Dana is a self interested prick. He will not last when the new generation of fighters realize the non lucrative prospects of UFC and move elswhere.
I have never heard of the guy, probably because I only catch the occassional UFC fight. He sounds like a real scumbag though. Great job on detailing why you think he is bad for the sport.
That would raise the revenues to over $75 million, which would make the high estimate of fighter earnings at less than 10 percent of the money brought in.
And to think this guy was just given some kind of sportsman of the year award. I love the UFC and mma in general but there are much better managers out there like Scott Coker at Strikeforce. Just a reference the UFC 100 ppv is said to have done 1.72 million ppv buys so that makes the fighter pay look even worse. Multiply that number times $45-55 to see what they made in ppv money.
Great article. Totally agree with you on this. I also think that White is a real sexist saying that women shouldn't be fighting and how he would never have them on a UFC card. However he did change his position a bit a said he would let Gina Carano and Cyborg fight in the WEC. What a hypocrite, he's only out to make money. It's just like the thing with Kimbo. He dogs him all the time, but when he thinks he can turn a buck White welcomes him in with open arms.
Unfortunately, with the cancellation of the recent Affliction card, the entire organization is folding up, giving the UFC even more power than they currently wield. A scary thought given all of the above.
