Riding low on your hips over your low-rise jeans or cinched around your waist to tame a flowing blouse, belts make a great trendy fashion statement. While there are many you can purchase at shops, a crochet ribbed buckle belt will make a great accessory. Materials Needed for the Ribbed Buckle Belt
In order to crochet the trendy ribbed belt with a buckle, you will need only a few simple materials. First, you will need your choice of sturdy yarn. You should not choose a fringed or eyelash yarn for this project if you want the ribbed look to be obvious. You will also need a standard "D" style belt buckle. This belt buckle consists of two "D" shaped pieces of metal, wood, or plastic.
Of course, you will also need scissors, a yarn needle, and a crochet hook in an appropriate size.
Crochet the Ribbed Buckle Belt
The ribbed crochet belt consists of a long rectangle of crocheted yarn. You should start with a simple chain stitch in whatever length you want the finished belt to be. Then, crochet using a single crochet stitch for the width of the belt. This should be the width of the flat part of the "D" for the belt buckle. It is nice to crochet this part in trendy colorful stripes. If you want a belt with blocks of color, you can start at the narrow end and crochet short rows until you reach the desired length.
The ribbed stripes on the belt are made by threading yarn onto the yarn needle and stitching a continuous loop stitch down the whole length of the belt. This ridge, or ribbing effect, can be repeated in stripes as desired.
Attach the Buckle to the Belt
The belt buckle will consist of the pair of "D" buckle parts sewn together on one end of the belt. This is done by simply stringing the belt buckle pieces on to the belt and folding over the end of the belt. Use the yarn in the yarn needle to stitch the end of the belt to the belt tightly.
To wear this belt, you will put it around your waist with the "D" ring buckle in the center front. Then, thread the other end of the crochet belt through both of the "D" rings. After that, thread the same end of the belt back through the second "D" ring only. The belt will be wrapped over the first "D" ring and will hold tightly.
