Virginia Regional Ballet in Williamsburg Virginia, Summer Dance Camps

My 4 year old daughter just participated in her first dance class experience. I enrolled her in a week long camp with the Virginia Regional Ballet Academy in Williamsburg VA.

I recommend the experience!

My daughter was fully involved in her craft every afternoon at 2 PM when I arrived to pick her up and had to be convinced to leave. She refused all week to show me any of the things she had learned insisting that I wait until Friday for the class performance.

Friday came, my husband and I watched her proudly run out in her pink leotard and tights clutching a fan they had made to do a dance from the Ballet Don Quixote. The ballet was followed by the girls presenting a jazz routine to the High School Musical Song "Fabulous." And then they came out again for a tap dance to "The Codfish Ball."

During the week they had watched pieces of "Don Quixote" Ballet, taken a field trip to the library to watch a performance of "Peter Pan," and tried "water ballet" in the pool.

If you are from the Williamsburg area this is a great way to try out the school and dance and break up the summer. If you are visiting the area for a week or more and are looking for something for a young child to do this was a lot of fun!

As a mom I have experienced situations once or twice in which a very talented athlete or artist was trying to teach a child and it wasn't a good experience for the child. I was pleased with the teachers at the dance camp. They did a great job both teaching dance and understanding appropriate and expected behaviors of children this age. The teachers were positive and caring and they spoke to my four year old in a way that made sense to her.

The school's description of Summer Dance Camps:

Offered for children ages 4 to 8 years old. 9:15 AM until 2 PM Monday to Friday.

Our week long Dance Camp provides younger dancers with instruction in ballet, tap, and jazz. At the end of each week long session dancers showcase what they have learned with a performance for their family and friends. Dance Camp also includes water ballet, crafts, and the study of a selected ballet.
