In Council Bluffs, Iowa there are a ton of free fun activities that you can do ranging from going to a museum to bike riding down one of our numerous trails! Council Bluffs is a great place to spend with the family due to the many spots to spend an afternoon with the family such as on the Lewis and Clark trail to the Union Pacific Railroad Museum.

First the Kanesville Tabernacle is a great spot to start, they offer a tour and some history of the area but mainly they focus on the westward expansion of the Latter-day saints, and their first presidency. The building itself is quite a marvel compared to the local area and because of that you cannot miss it with its wood cabin looking building in a sea of metal and concrete.

Union Pacific Railroad Museum is another great stop because you will notice coming into the area our massive amounts of trains yes it is true they are a pain but its part of the history of our area and just the amount of trading that goes on through the heartland is amazing. And here you will learn about how the railroads where first made and a lot of trains themselves. Great stop for kids and an excellent gift shop!

Western Historic Trails Center is another great place to learn the history of 4 of the well western historic trails in the area so you can find out the background information about them and go visit them! It makes it a lot more interesting to visit knowing what has happened there and what makes it so important. They have a sculpture exhibit, and some photographs, a film, and the best out of all of it is their Native American exhibits. There is also a shop there to buy some souvenirs!

It is also worth mentioning that near Council Bluffs there is Omaha, Nebraska its less than 10 minute drive and there are quite a few attractions located there as it is the Capitol of Nebraska its a big city with tons of stuff to do. If you head down there though you may be more inclined to spend a bit of money.
