Parenting Advice for Starting Summer Vacation
Top Ten Ways to Celebrate the Beginning of the Best Time of Year
1. An old fashioned cook-out. One excellent bit of parenting advice for starting summer vacation is to turn lunch or supper into an old time cook out. Don't wait for the Fourth of July to break out the grill . With your children plan who to invite. It might be some school friends that you won't see for the rest of the summer, or some neighbors that you will be spend most of vacation with, or maybe grandparents who want to join in the joy of the arrival of summer vacation. You can make it as simple or elaborate as you chose or can afford. The important thing is to come together to give summer an official welcome.
2. Take a lunch to the beach or the lake. The first day of school vacation might not be a perfect beach day. The air and water in some places are still relatively cool. But that's not the point of this bit of parenting advice for starting summer vacation. Going to the beach is about as far, emotionally, as you can get from the class room. Giving your kids and maybe a friend or two the chance to run wild along the water's edge is as good a beginning as you can come up with for the start of a summer of happiness. Stretch out your day by bringing lunch along. It's time to think about how nice it is not to be in line in the cafeteria.
