A lot of folks think working from home means you don't have to work as hard or as many hours. This kind of thinking is false and won't earn you very much money. Here are 7 things you should keep in mind when choosing to work from home:1. Set your office hours. My kids will be attending school from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. so I set those as my office hours. Some of my business associates don't have to work around their children so they set their offices hours from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Decide what works best for you and your family. The important thing to remember is to stick to the hours you create.
2. Create a workspace that is separate from the rest of the house. This is extremely important. Keep all of your office supplies and equipment in one room or area of the house. You want to be able to concentrate and keep your mindset on the tasks at hand. That is a little hard to do if you are in another room in the house as each room has it's own purpose and set of distractions.
3. Decide what tasks need to be accomplished that week and divide them up. If you work Monday through Friday you can divide the amount of tasks by 5. This will keep you from becoming overwhelmed at all the work that needs to get done. You can also move on to the next day's task if you finish early. On the other side of the coin, if you don't finish a task by the end of the day just put it as top priority for the following days agenda.
4. Set goals for yourself. Decide where you want to be in 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years. Post these goals where you can see them while you are working. If you get discouraged take a look at your goals. Remind yourself why you are working from home in the first place. If your goals need to be adjusted that is okay too.
5. Get the right equipment. Just because you work from home doesn't mean you can skip out on creating business cards, etc. You still want to appear professional and have the right equipment to run your business efficiently. Make sure you have a business line, fax machine, and Internet access.
