James Dobson does not speak for all Christians though he thinks he does.

James Dobson is making news because he is questioning whether Fred Thompson, the Senator turned actor is a Christian. Well, one would have to wonder exactly who James Dobson is to tell someone they are a Christian or not. He was one of the people who was "overseeing" Ted Haggard, and we see how that came out. When the truth came out Dobson ran for the hills siting lack of time. I would question his faith, since he clearly left a brother who needed help.

Dobson was actually considering endorsing Newt Gingrich until it came out that Newt couldn't keep his pants on either. He did tell "U.S. News & World Report" that he thinks Gingrich is the "brightest guy out there" and "the most articulate politician on the scene today." If Dobson endorses Gingrich he would show himself to be a hypocrite

So, it looks like the American Christian will have to think for itself for once. With no clear leader in Republican politics or Christianity, maybe people will vote for who they want instead of who some windbag wants.

While you are deciding you should know what Dobson believes:

Homosexuality

1. Homosexuality is a mental disorder caused by family problems
and bad parenting.
2. Gay people want to destroy marriage and the family.
3. Same-gender parents are unfit and seek to hurt children.
4. Homosexuality can be prevented by parents and cured through
"reparative therapy."
5. Gays and lesbians are sick, ungodly people who want "special rights,"
not civil rights.

Women:
1."My observation is that women are merely waiting for their husbands to assume leadership."
2. In his opinion, the call for men to lead isn't limited to the home, but reaches into both the church and government. He is highly critical of efforts to increase a female presence of leadership in these realms of authority.

State Colleges:
State Universities are breeding grounds, quite literally, for sexually transmitted diseases (including HIV), homosexual behavior, unwanted pregnancies, abortions, alcoholism, and drug abuse.

Takeaways
  • James Dobson is a Psychologist not Theologian
  • Runs Love Worn Out, A group dedicated to forcing people to give up homosexuality
  • Believes homosexual issue more important than terrorist threat
