Barn Wood paint techniques are a super affordable way to update an outdated Front Door in need of a little TLC. Barn Wood is a wonderfully shabby red and time worn looking wide planked wood. It looks perfect in a country home or country cabin décor custom Front Door . This paint technique is a super affordable alternative to buying and using real old barn wood and building a Front Door. You will not have to worry about splinters either.

Front Door

Now, start sanding the surface of your plain or damaged Front Door. Once you have the surface lightly sanded, you should wipe off the dust with a clean dry clothe. An old white t-shirt will work perfectly here.

Now, you are ready to put a coat of primer. This is a very important step. Your Barn Wood Paint Technique will not stick to your Front Door surface if you don't sand and then prime your Front Door surface.

If you want a rough more rustic Barn Wood Painted Front Door try putting the primer on with one of the 6" brushes. This will give texture and create the look of real wood. If you prefer the smoother look you can roll the paint on with any type of paint roller. A foam roller will create the smoothest surface.

Allow your primer to dry completely.

Put on a coat of your base paint on the wood floors. This is the Pale Gold 2 from Laura Ashley at Lowes.

Takeaways
  • Put on a coat of your base paint on the wood floors.
  • Allow your primer to dry completely.
  • A foam roller will create the smoothest surface.
