Review of Time Warner's Digital Phone Service

Why We Are Happy We Switched

We are living in a new era. Gone are the days of one phone company holding a monopoly over a service area. They say the monopolies were broken up long ago but that isn’t entirely true. I’ve moved around a lot in my life and I found that the
local phone company did everything they could to make sure I was using their services. If I opted for a different long distance carrier they made things difficult for me.

Having had experience with many different phone companies I came to feel that there are no good ones, just ones that are a bit better than the rest. There really was no reason for customer service to treat you like a human because you had no choice but to use their services.

A gentleman I know suggested I try Vonage phone service. This digital phone goes through your cable Internet connection and completely bypasses the phone company. Intriguing! I did some research and liked what I heard but never got around to making the switch until now. Instead of going with Vonage I went with my local cable company Time Warner Cable.

Why We Switched

I finally came to the end of the line with my phone company. I was three days late on my bill when I got a call from my phone company. The message stated they were going to shut off my phone service. I was dumbfounded. They are shutting off my phone because my bill was three days late? When my husband phoned them they said they have no choice because people are running up bills and then switching to digital phone. They were pretty nasty about it.

I think if people are running to digital phone it may have more to do with customer service than anything. I find this kind of behavior unacceptable. They also told us if they turned off any of our services it would cost us 26 dollars. It was also cost us 26 dollars to get it turned back on. This phone company considers local, long distance and the optional services to be three separate things. That’s a whopping 78 dollars!

For the past two months the voicemail for my Time Warner digital phone was inconsistent. Many times I would see calls on caller ID and it would be up to 24 hours later before I had a voicemail. Two months after my first called I decided to call again. Tonight they told me that if I depend on the voicemail maybe I should get an answering machine and cancel their voicemail. I told the customer service rep, who was nice, that I guess I'll just go back 15 years in technology.

I thought it was just me going bangers. listening to you guys just confirmed it just how horrible TWC phone service really is. Right now my phone beeps a steady busy signal and its been doing it on and off for weeks now. TWC repair said it was my box and that I should do the old switch it on and off routine. When this started I called for ' repair ' to come to my house...he did and broke the screen on my Mac. Now I'm waiting for ' repair ' to still fix my Mac as well as my phone. What's worse is that TWC is saying that both issues are ' NOT ' their problem and that I can't prove their tech broke my Mac.

And god knows how many times we've been screwed with by their Tech "Support" and blown off by their technicans.

We've also had HORRIBLE issues with time warner's phone service AND internet. We've had the service for hmm maybe a year? close to it at least anyways when we first got it it was fine a few small issue now and then with the phone but nothing really bad but THEN the internet would go out everytime someone used the phone and they kept dicking us around over it i called and had one woman tell me that there was something wrong with the phone frequency or something like that and then another woman saying that theres absolutely nothing wrong and "I don't know what to tell you" lol what kind of shit is that since then our phones screw up at least once a week and I'm still getting randomly kicked off god knows how many job applications my internet has ruined haha but yeah huge mistake! waste of freakin' time

i have not been satisfied and my buisness has lost money to TWC poor phone service since i had it installed. and i believe there are enough dissatisfied TWC phone customers to consider a class action law suit... if you are an attourney or want to start a list to present an to an attourny for just such a reason send me an email to lab1@kc.rr.com

additon to below... my MAGICJACK, works way better than the TWC phone . even though they are both on the same cable connection...i plan on raising hOLY HELL with TWC since all of my problems have been over the phone service which i use for business purposes. if there is any classaction litigation going or contemplated ,, sign me up. i have lost maybe thousands of dollars becouse of it. cliants cant hear me or visa vera and faxs dont send or recieve most of the time.. bring back sprint iON, that was a service that worked

i was running TWC for basic cable and hS internet with Vonnage for phone service. the vonnage was good for the first cpl of years then began having issues with the phone service. TWC said it was a vonnage problem and of course vonnage said it was TWC problem. since the problems werent fixed i decided to make the switch to TWC all in one ... so i would only have one company to blame if a problem came up .....had TWC run new lines from pole { basically start from scratch} one for the phone and a seperate one for the tv so they wouldnt interfear with eachother. i have had bad phone issues ever since. i make a call i hear the phone ring... then i hear thier viocemail msg.. then they answer and i still hear all three going on at the same time while im talking to the one i call... TWC phone service is CRAP... i have had the modem switched at least 3 times over the last 2 years and it clears while the tech is here maybe for a day or 2 then it starts over again.

TW phone is the worst ever. my phone has been out since Monday and cant seem to get somebody to come fix it.

TW is great i have all in one deal. BUT Digital phone gets annoying.... i work from home and make and receive about 100 calls per day. The problem is that when i dial a number, about 2 out of 10 times it says something like "all network connections are busy". Pretty annoying hearing this about 15 times a day.... VERY annoying actually.

We got Time Warner digital telephone two days ago. They brought over a new modem that would take care of our computer roadrunner service AND the telephone. The minute the guy left, a swarm of cockroaches cascaded out of the Time Warner modem. My husband and I both witnessed this. He put the modem in a plastic bag with lots of duct tape. I called Time Warner and they laughed at me and declared it impossible. I demanded that somebody come out in the next 24 hours and switch the modem to one that was not cock-roach infested. They refused. So the upshot is: I am going back to AT & T and I'm getting a small, local DSL company to provide internet service. Time Warner can afford to lose a family or two, but I'll be worried for a long time if any of the cockroaches are perpetrating acts of fecundity under my floorboards. Terrible customer service to show indifference and disbelief when you are told that there are cockroaches in your electronics. Caveat Emptor!
