With all the different diet programs out there, which ones really work? The truth is, most of them can work for you, but it takes a lot of work and determination. All of these diet and exercise programs floating around have this same principle in common. Of course, these programs have different techniques, but ultimately have the same goal in mind. Lose weight! Gain muscle!

I have lifted weights for the past 8 years. I know what works and what doesn't. When I began, I was about 165 pounds and I could bench press 185 pounds. I am now 195 pounds and can bench press 315 pounds. This happened within and 8 year period, but with fitness, nothing happens overnight. Right now I lift for strength. I don't do very much cardio at the moment. When trying to develop your fitness plan, you need to figure out what your fitness goals are. Is it to gain strength, lose fat, or both. When looking for a fitness plan, it is very important to keep this goal in mind so that you get the results that you are looking for.

One thing that really helps when trying to reach your fitness goals, is to have someone there to help you and push you along the way. It is easy to lose the motivation if you are working out by yourself, or if you have no direction. A personal trainer is nice, if you can afford it. I find it just as effective to workout with a friend and follow a workout plan each time. I've picked out a couple different books, that I like, that can help you develop a workout plan that is right for you. I will leave links to these books at the bottom of the article.

The first book was written by Tom Venuto. This guy has been bodybuilding for 23 years, and has been in all of the muscle magazines out there. So he knows what he is talking about! He has put together a proven system to lose fat and gain muscle. The book is pretty inexpensive, and all the techniques he talks about are time-tested and proven. This book will give you a great workout plan, and they have a website you can checkout at www.global-fitness.com. You can also contact them with questions, which is kind of nice.

Did You Know?
Studies have shown that walking for 3 or more hours per week can lower your risk of heart disease by 65%.
