Exploring the outdoors in Montana is the best way to experience what this state has to offer. If you would like to plan a unique Memorial Day getaway, or an exciting summer vacation near the city of Billings, then you have a lot of great destinations to choose from. Billings, Montana is the largest city in the state. It has a population of over 100,000 people. This city is nicknamed the "Magic City." This is a great place to stay if you would like to visit Yellowstone National Park, Pompey's Pillar, or the Battle of the Little Bighorn site. The climate of this city during the summer months is hot, but livable. If you plan your trip to Billings in May you can expect temperatures between 44 degrees F and 68 degrees F, however, temperatures can soar into the 90s. Between June and August the temperatures usually range between the 52 and 86 degrees. July is the hottest month, however, temperatures can soar over 100 degrees during any of the prime summer months.
Campgrounds Near Billings, Montana
There are at least 10 public campgrounds within 25 miles of Billings. All of these campgrounds will put you in close proximity to great outdoor adventures and attractions. Some of your campground options include: Pelican's RV Campground, City Park Campground, Sage Creek Campground, Rockcreek Campground, and Billings Metro KOA. Yellowstone National Park also has several camping sites that you can stay at, as well as several cabins that you can rent for an in-park vacation.
Get Your Feet Wet
If you would like to plan a water adventure then you may want to make plans to visit or stay at a campground near one of the many lakes in the area. The lakes that are located in Yellowstone County include Lake Elmo, Twin Lakes, Broadview Pond, and the Rattlesnake Reservoir. Other lakes within 30 miles of Billings include: the Adams Reservoir, the Alkali Pond, the Big Lake, Crater Lake, Depression Reservoir, and Hunter Lake.
