How a Single Sponge Upset a Nation

Today my Sexual Hidden Messages Found in Disney Movies has officially hit 97,234 reads on Associated Content and another 23,737 on the old site I used to blog at called bloggerparty. I wrote another article called Sexual Hidden Messages found in Everyday Household Products that has another few thousand reads too. So with the success of these articles I decided to create a third one, so now I can say I have a trilogy. Neat.

Sponge Bob is a cartoon that almost everybody is familiar with even if you don't have kids. Sponge Bob is this sponge guy that lives in a pineapple under the sea in his home town called Bikini Bottom (interesting choice of name...)

Anyway, there was a Sponge Bob movie released in 2004 that seemed to really offend parents as well as church groups and other organizations. "Why was it offensive?", you ask, well lets investigate.

People may have been slightly appalled by the constant viewing of Sponge Bobs friend, Patrick's, completely bare buttocks. Patricks rear end is shown not once or twice, but three times though the movie. In one of the three semi-naked scenes, Patrick decides to swim over a crowd of people at a party and hold a sign between his butt cheeks! But maybe people were not truly offended by this act, or the numerous times that Sponge Bob and Pat are in their brief-style undies, but instead they could have been a little outraged by the incredible amount of absolutely adult themes and conversations that take place during the film. Want some examples?

Well, at one point during this movie, Patrick, who apparently is not afraid to be in the nude, asks a female character if she would like to see his underwear. This is the same girl-character that he persistently flirts with during the entire hour and a half long show.

Then there's the incredibly odd David Hasselhoff appearance. If you have seen the movie then you may have noticed his "upper chest muscles" bouncing uncontrollably. In fact, the bouncing is so uncontrollable that Sponge Bob and his buddy Patrick even RIDE THEM through the sea.
