The Best Concerts I've Ever Seen
I've been to many concerts in my life. Seeing live shows is one of my favorite things to do. From my teen years, I've taken every opportunity offered to me to see a concert, even if I didn't always particularly love the artist. I've seen Aerosmith and Judas Priest, Barry Manilow and Bette Midler, Diana Ross, the Pointer Sisters and Kool and the Gang, Air Supply and Soul II Soul, Belinda Carlisle and Kelly Clarkson, and many, many more.
I love going to concerts, but not all of them are that entertaining. The music, of course, is the most important factor in whether or not it's enjoyable. But a concert can be especially wonderful when it's entertaining, as well. Here are some of the best concerts I've ever seen. They represent a variety of shows I've attended that I've especially enjoyed and are listed in no particular order. If you've ever seen one of these artists and would like to comment, please do, or if not, check one of them out the next time they roll into your town.
Sade, Lover's Rock Tour, Jones Beach Theater, Wantagh, NY (2001) - I've always loved Sade and her music. The smooth jazz sounds, eloquent lyrics and silky feel of her music always soothe the soul. The show took place at the Jones Beach Theater. It was a perfect setting for a romantic evening; a warm summer breeze coming off of the ocean behind the stage, a million stars in the sky, and Sade with her band sharing their passion in such an intimate venue. The music was authentic to the recordings and the evening was simply magical.
Madonna, Blond Ambition Tour (1990), Confessions Tour (2006), Sticky and Sweet Tour (2008/09) - Madonna's one of my favorite artists and I've seen her live many times. Anyone who's ever seen her documentary "Truth or Dare" knows that her concerts are very visually entertaining. She presents her concerts as a series of vignettes, with the several songs strung together around a theme. The music masterfully complements the visual and the result is entertainment at its best.
