All fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 have been in denial for several years now. We just could never quite admit that Crow T. Robot, Tom Servo, Mike Nelson and the gang were gone for good. Last we saw them, they were sitting in a room watching and riffing on a B-movie showing on television. Oh sure, there is Rifftrax which finally allows Michael J. Nelson to turn popular but still atrocious films like Lord of the Rings into something finally worth watching, but the Rifftrax experience isn't quite the same. Well, neither is the new effort coming forth from the Shout Factory!

But it's probably the closest we'll get.

If you are a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000 then I must warn you to sit down and punch in 9-1 on your phone. That way if you do suffer a heart attack all's you need to get done is punch in the final 1. Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy are reteaming for an MST3K-type video series in which they will riff like old times-and do sketches in between-on movies like The Wild Women of Wongo. The set-up is, of course, different from Mystery Science Theater 3000, but not drastically so. True, there won't be any silhouettes and precious little puppetry, but when you've got these three riffing on a movie that seems a small price to pay. The gimmick this time has the three men in a basement with their boss calling to tell them what movie to riff on.

Takeaways
  • The movies will be released on DVD starting July 10.
  • Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy are all doing the riffing.
  • Hollywood After Dark is the first movie scheduled for release.

Great article! I saw something about this on the Rifftrax site a while back, about voting for one of the videos. Anyways, I can't wait :) I've been trying to make do with the series that Mike Nelson put out on DVD in which he's done older movies like Night of the Living Dead, Reefer Madness, Carnival of Souls, etc. But it's just not the same.

I can't believe that I had completely forgotten about MST3000, especially since I used to love it back in the day! Great to see that they're coming back and thanks for letting us know. :)
