Ballerinas, princesses, and fairies may flit through your daughter's imagination. Therefore, one may very well flit through your house. Imaginative play is a wonderful thing to encourage in children. Therefore, if your daughter wants to be a fairy, you should help her out by sewing a super easy fairy petal skirt. Materials for the Fairy Petal Skirt
1. A piece of ¼ inch elastic cord
2. A roll of tulle - about 5 inches wide
3. Sewing thread and needle
4. Scissors
5. Ribbons or flat lace
Sewing the Easy Petal Skirt
The easy fairy petal skirt begins with the simple piece of elastic cord. This cord should be cut so that it is the correct size for your daughter's waist. It should be snug, but not tight. Elastic that is too tight will be uncomfortable or could cause gastric distress. The elastic should be stretchy enough to be able to slip the fairy petal skirt on and off easily.
To construct the floating petals of this fairy skirt, you should use the roll of tulle. This is net-like fabric that is most popular for buntings or wedding decorations. Cut a large quantity of strips of this tulle, as long as you want the fairy skirt to be. It is nice to cut these at an angle to get a playful uneven hemline.
Using the needle and thread, simply stitch the top of the tulle strip to the elastic cord. Repeat this for every one of the tulle strips until you are satisfied with the thickness of the skirt. You can make this easy fairy petal skirt from just one color, or alternate different colors of tulle for a different look. These tulle panels will float about your little girl as she runs and dances.
Decorations and Trim for the Fairy Skirt
The fairy petal skirt can be further decorated by tying ribbons or lace to the elastic waist band of the skirt. These will add extra twirl and style when your little girl dances about. You can also make a wide ribbon sash that can hide the top part of the skirt. Simply stitch or tie it on to one point of the elastic and wrap it around the waist to tie in a big bow at the back.
