American Idol Auditionee Alexis Cohen Dead at 25

Alexis Cohen, who auditioned for American Idol seasons 7 and 8, is dead at 25. According to Right Celebrity, Alexis Cohen was found lying on a Seaside Heights, New Jersey road around 4 am Saturday. She was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead at 6:30 am. Alexis Cohen had been struck by a car in a hit and run.

Alexis Cohen achieved national notoriety when she auditioned for American Idol, failing to make it to Hollywood. In her bio clip, she mentioned that she "danced to a different drummer." She described her drawings to demonstrate to creativity. Alexis Cohen also talked about her two cats and her dog, and how she was studying to be a veterinarian. As a vocalist, American Idol hopeful Alexis Cohen compared herself to Janis Joplin.

For her American Idol audition, Alexis Cohen performed Somebody to Love. Simon Cowell said "it was a bit possessed." Randy Jackson said that she was not good enough for the show, but could do well in a 60s or 70s cover band. Paula Abdul passed, but said she was talented. After leaving the room, Alexis Cohen gave Simon a piece of her mind with an expletive-ridden rant, saying "if I could legally moon you I would." She also talked about going into acting and emerging victorious.

Alexis Cohen's tragic death is somewhat reminiscent of Paula Goodspeed's suicide. Paula Goodspeed, another American Idol hopeful, idolized Paula Abdul to the point where even her hair, her complexion, and her eclectic fashion sense resembled Abdul. Yet her American Idol audition failed to impress the judges, including her idol Paula. In November 2008, Paula Goodspeed was found dead outside Abdul's home. Police suspected suicide.

Earlier this month, another bizarre reality death occurred when Kat McKenzie, runner-up of the British version of My New BFF, died suddenly and mysteriously. Paris Hilton was devastated by the loss. Although Kat McKenzie had finished second, Paris was devastated by her death, calling her a beautiful, funny, and charismatic woman.
