The breed has a thick undercoat, which is soft and furry with an insensitively textured outer coat. The breed Is an intelligent breed and is a bit smug, and commands attention. Because of the several layers of the Pomeranian's coat, many people shy away from the breed out of concern for the upkeep. Even though their coat should receive daily brushing to prevent mats, the grooming is not so difficult it you keep it up.

When I was growing up, we had a pommy. We found that he was a one family dog. My aunt made the mistake of getting too close to Tippy and had her leg nipped for her trouble. Good description of the breed and the particular health concerns they may have.
