Take Your Pet to the Vet

Responsible owners take their pets to the vet. Most people do no neglect to spay and neuter their pets, nor do they neglect their medical care, but some do. Some are so neglec
tful that they do not even take them to their wellness check ups and vaccinations because they don't have the money, or don't want to spend the money to take them. Some folks don't even take their pets to the vet when their pet is sick unless it is to put them down.

I know some very responsible pet owners that take great care of their pets. They take them to their appointments for wellness check ups, and vaccinations as well as grooming. One of my friends has a pet psychologist come out to visit her dog once a week to help train the dog to not be so aggressive. And on the other side of the spectrum I know some folks that don't take care of their animals at all. Their dogs and cats are not spayed or neutered, and they keep multiplying. One dog is in terrible shape. He is an Alaskan malamute, white are furry right? Not on your life! This poor dog has some kind of mite that is causing all of his hair to fall out. He has patches of hair here and there, but for the most part his pink skin is exposed. He looks so sad. I believe he knows how bad he looks. Every time I see this dog I say something to my friends about them needing to take him to the vet. They just say, "He has allergies", and leave it at that. He has ear mites that drive him crazy and they smell bad, but the owners do nothing to help him.

It takes more than love to make a pet part of your life. If you choose a pet, then it is your responsibility to take care of it. Your pet didn't choose you, you chose it. Even if you pick up a stray dog, cat, bunny or other animal, you owe it to that animal to give it good medical care. An animal needs more than food and shelter.

Most people don't neglect their own healthcare so why would they neglect that of their pets? I am sure most people would agree that even if we were to neglect our own care, we would not neglect the healthcare of our children. That said, we have a similar responsibility to our pets that we do to our children.

I agree with you. I am very diligent about getting my two cats vaccinated and taken to the vet when they are unwell. I recently had to rush my older cat to the vet when he had stopped eating and drinking for a few days. It was such a worrying time for my husband and I, as I felt sure that if we waited a moment longer for him to eat or drink that he would die. But thankfully, he pulled through. Even though the emergency treatment and hospitalisation was expensive, it was well worth it. Sophie
