What is a social network? There might be an elementary answer to that for those under 30 or so. But, for many a social network could still be defined in this way, quoting Dictionary.com, "a person's family, neighbors, and friends with whom they are socially involved."

Not so, for the majority of us who roam cyberspace. The new social network definition quotes like this, "a website where one connects with those sharing personal or professional interests, place of origin, education at a particular school, etc." (Dictionary.com)

The Etc. is the best part of a social network. Ning.com is giving the people of the World Wide Web the opportunity to broaden their own world, and capture the very essence of cyberspace. Their innovative contribution allows anyone to develop and design their own social network. Ning has presented bloggers, web site owners and visitors, and those who roam the web a new medium. One that may soon replace the webring, user groups, mailing lists and the ezine for those who want to come together, immediately communicate and share their thoughts, talents, and work.

Ning was founded in October of 2004 by Marc Andreessen and Gina Bianchini. Both were intent upon designing a platform that would enable anyone to develop their own social network. And they have accomplished the goal.

Today there are over 30,000 social networks on Ning.com and more are being created everyday. Place any search term at the Ning site and your interest is bound to appear in the form of a network that can become a part of a daily time investment

The creation of a social network on Ning is also easy to achieve. Choose the theme of the network, select the appearance with the effortless steps provided - plug in a few more keys and the creation of a social network becomes complete.

I developed Blog Writers and Artists Network because I wanted to bring together those on the web who enjoyed blogging and capturing their form of being a creative person online. Lucky for me, Ning.com had provided a fantastic vehicle to get that job done.
