Why You Should Visit the Moosehead Lake Region - One of the Many Reasons Maine is Called "Vacationland"

Moosehead Lake region of Maine has got to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. Aside from the cute antique and quaint gift shops and restaurants, it is so natural. Unlike a good po 
rtion of the United States, trees are predominant. Wildlife is still seen roaming around. And I am not just talking about birds and squirrels.
Ever see a moose standing less than 10 feet away from your car? He is just staring at you, munching away at his swamp grass, thinking to himself "Darn Tourists". It is even better when you catch a glimpse of moose in the Spring, and see a mother and calf together.
They aren't the only wildlife creatures you can see either. Deer, fox, raccoons, rabbits, bobcats, bear...the list goes on and on. I recall a late-night car ride home from a favorite campfire spot where I saw a baby bear running across the road. It was amazing. Where I live, there are deer everywhere. But actual bears that aren't penned in at the local zoo? Awesome.
Also, there are plenty of places to hike off of Moosehead lake. There are various access trails for the Appalachian, for example. Bucks Falls is another pretty place to hike nearby.
Obviously there are also lakes and ponds galore in the area. This means that many tours are available, not only by land, but also by sea and air. Sunset boat rides are a wonderful way to spend an evening, sipping on wine and taking pictures along the way. Seaplane rides are another great way to look for wildlife. They are fun too, if you like to fly that is.
My all time favorite Maine activity is River Rafting. There are several rafting companies within an hour and a half's drive to go to. You want an adventure, here it is. Companies have one day trips, overnight trips, and other activities as well. Check them out! If you don't feel like driving that far, you can always rent a kayak and paddle your thoughts away on a closer lake or pond.
