Product Review: Fresh Step Litter Crystals
Cat litter crystals are small clear and blue crystals that can be used in addition to or instead of cat litter. They are odor-reducing, absorbent, anti-bacterial, non-toxic and most importantly non-toxic.
Fresh Step litter crystals are as important to me as cat litter. They cost upwards around sixteen dollars for a container holding four pounds of crystals; however, they are a must. I just sprinkle a little bit on top of the cat litter after changing the box. The difference from when I just used cat litter is phenomenal.
The odor-reducing aspect is very important. I live in my parents' house and I'm forced to keep my cat, and obviously the litter box, closed up in my room. Before I first used litter crystals (my mother bought them) the smell was a big problem. My room is small so the odor just stayed there and made the entire room smell terrible. Now that I use the litter crystals there is little or no odor at all, which is fantastic.
Another great aspect of the litter crystals is that they are trackless unlike regular cat litter. My cat tends to get cat litter all over the floor when leaving the litter box. It's not his fault, because he does shake his little paws to try and get the litter off of them but no matter what there still ends up being a lot of litter on the floor near the litter box. It is very helpful that at least the crystals aren't tracked out; otherwise there would be even more of a mess for me to vacuum up.
The Fresh Step litter crystals can also be used alone instead of cat litter. The thing is, it's not good for the cat to switch suddenly. The box suggests you gradually increase the amount of crystals and gradually decrease the amount of ordinary cat litter. I would love to be able to do this, but for me the crystals cost way too much. At sixteen dollars each, I would need a container every week, whereas right now I buy a container every one or two months along with a giant container or bag of cat litter that usually costs under five bucks.
My suggestion is to buy it as a small supplement to your cat litter to help with odor, unless you either have a lot of extra cash to spend or simply love to dote on your cat.
