As a huge chocolate lover, I try any and every kind of chocolate that I can find. Based on alm
ost 30 years of research, I must say that the German Ritter Sport chocolate bars are by far the best chocolate to be had. Ritter Sport is an inexpensive but high-quality chocolate that is available at a large number of grocery stores in the U.S. and most Target stores. The average price of a Ritter Sport is $1.50 to $2.50 per 100 gram bar, which may seem expensive until you realize that a normal size Hershey chocolate bar is approximately 40 grams of chocolate.

My very favorite Ritter Sport chocolate is the Ritter Sport Alpine Milk Chocolate bar. Currently there are 18 different varieties of Ritter Sport available, with the occasional availability of limited edition flavors. The Ritter Sport bars are unique in both their appearance and packaging. Each Ritter Sport chocolate bar is square in shape and is comprised of 16 smaller squares to allow you to break the bar up into smaller more manageable pieces and to allow you the convenience of portion control. The packaging is vibrant in color and is unique in the manner in which it opens up. Instead of being wrapped in a sort of foil with paper over top, the Ritter Sport is in a plastic handy snap-open package. What this type of packaging means is that you can easily snap open your Ritter Sport any time or any place and it is just as easy to reseal it without making a mess or losing the freshness of the Ritter Sport bar.

After living overseas for a few years and ahving easy access to nearly all the Ritter chocolate line a true ritter lover must try them. I would look into ordering online. If you like dark chocolate they have one that is 71% cocoa and is one of the finest dark chocoaltes I have tasted. If you like rum they make a bar with rum soaked raisins and hazelnuts, my favorite. And yes, it's actual rum. For the non-rum types there is a raisin hazelnut one without the rum. These are certainly worth the effort, and yes, it's hard not to eat the whole bar. I will certainly miss the cheap cost and easy access to them once I move baqck to the states.

I'm a huge fan of Ritter already, but didn't know most of what you wrote about the ingredients and the company's commitment to quality (although the commitment to quality is obvious in every bite!) My local Target, the only place in town I've found Ritter, only carries the Milk Chocolate Hazelnut and the Butter Biscuit - both are wonderful. My only complaint is that it's REALLY hard for a chocolate addict like me not to eat the whole thing! Great great article - I think I'm going to go raid my stash of Ritter now... Keep writing!
